Passwords are like socks. Change regularly

There is a common saying in every field. In the field of Information Technology (IT), the said subject is a common saying.

What is password?
Password is one kind of user authentication process. It is most commonly used along with username. This username and password are encrypted and are used to protect the system or site from unauthorized user. The username and password are unique for specified user. Be it personal or groups, password should be made strong in such a way that other than the specified user, none should be able to guess on it. This is why in most social networking site or software, it is always recommended to use at least 8 characters (a combination of alphanumeric and special symbols). The so said combination helps in securing the passwords from various types of hackers (should be discussed in future). The chance of generating correct combination is low if the password is made as mentioned above.

Passwords are like socks?
Nobody put the same socks for a very long time without washing or changing it. If they do so, it either become smelly (people recognizes it sooner or later) or might create several problems to the person (you know it better!). Likewise, if passwords are not well-maintained, sooner or later intruders get into it creating several problems to the computer/software/site. As a result, important information could get revealed which could hamper the future of the individual or departments or groups.

Change regularly?
As discussed earlier, password need to be made as unique as possible with at least 8 characters and should be changed regularly. Regular doesn’t imply every day, it rather signify maintaining proper schedule (random schedule is more preferable) may be daily, weekly, monthly etc. depending on the software or site.

In today’s world, any information can be traced out within no time through our finger tips; we called ourselves lucky but we tend to forget the other side that is while we can trace desire information easily, our information too, got spread out easily. Therefore, securing ourselves and maintaining privacy is a must. Take it seriously and start the first simple step by maintaining your password from today. Always remember, “Well beginning is half done”.  All the best.
